The rise of American authoritarianism – Vox

Before reading this post, please answer the following questions and remember your responses.

1. What do you think is more important for a child to have: independence or respect for elders?

2. What do you think is more important for a child to have: obedience or self-reliance?

3. What do you think is more important for a child to have: to be considerate or to be well-behaved?

4. What do you think is more important for a child to have: curiosity or good manners?

Political Science, like Sociology, and Psychology are “suspect sciences” in the minds of those who consider as valid only what can be perceived and proved in the physical sciences. Still these disciplines use the tools of physical science, such as statistics to test their hypotheses. The American Psychological Association has a division in Humanistic Psychology whose aim is to keep this approach to human existence alive here in the US. This scientific versus humanistic controversy goes back to the thinking of philosophers in Continental Europe, some of whom were around in the first half of the 20th century when Nazism reached its height.

This post bring to light the rise of something that has been labeled authoritarianism. This is not just an American condition. It can be found in voters in democratic elections worldwide. And it may or may not be a problem, depending on your political views. The four questions above were to try and determine how much of a role hierarchy, order, and conformity play in the winning or losing of democratic elections.

People like to blame -isms, like Communism, Fascism, Nazism, etc. on specific persons who have risen to power riding the wave of popular political assent during their time. Nazism did not die when Hitler died; it is still alive along with antisemitism. Communism did not die with the collapse of the Soviet Union; it is still alive in North Korea, China, and in other nations.

Now, wearing American garb, is the rise of authoritarianism, fueled by media propaganda and exploited by Donald Trump. This is my take on what I have linked to. I would recommend the link be read in its entirety and not just scanned. This will take time. So much of what we are handed in the media is just fill-in until the next ad. This has some thought behind it.

BBC News: Donald Trump v the US TV networks – Between the lines

Hej Jeff Zucker:

The money was for the wounded vets, not Trump! As a vet myself I consider that a piss-poor write-off. (Like someone who asks for a raise and stuffs the refusal because he/she needs the job.) Maybe you should donate to the wounded vets for each and every candidate who shows and retains your advertisers.

Hej Fox News:

And as far as Putin and the Ayatollah goes, they will treat ANYONE who becomes President unfairly, just as the US will do to safeguard its security/interests. Tap any phones lately?

Finally for you, BBC:

My TV is the Internet and you did a “la-de-da” coverage of this issue, insulting my intelligence. But you are not the only English news feed in the world. Perhaps this is all…no…you all pat one another on the back. MONEY!!!🤑

Trump is a good businessperson. He knows how the money game is played and how to use his strengths against his opponents weaknesses. I won’t vote for him for President. But I will surely study his strategies in my struggle to bring #Equality to my Transgender and Intersex sisters, brothers, and nongendered fellow travelers.

Trump a ‘fool’, but let him speak France 24

For a man who loves press, even bad press, visiting the UK is still possible. Getting 100,000 valid signatures behind a petition to keep him out is required to have this issue debated in Parliament.  Late News:  500,000 signatures have been gathered!

UK lawmakers judge Trump ‘fool’ but rule out ban http://f24.my/1RwYUIx

What the Women of Berlin’s Rosenstrasse Protest Can Teach Us About Trump | The PeaceWorker

In my daily task of reading news feeds from around the world, I see where the UK parliament is concerned about letting Donald Trump visit the UK. There is fear that he may, in fact, get elected and then having to receive him as the US President would be “difficult” and “embarrassing”.

My, my. How history can repeat itself for people with short memories. At least Winston Churchill called a spade a spade labeling Hitler as “the maniac.” It reflects so poorly on the US that among the best we can offer the world are the likes of Donald Trump. The British people need to be strong, resolute, and not short-change their sovereignty or that of the European Union by bowing and scraping to this crowd manipulator.

And we, on this side of the Atlantic, need to VOTE in the upcoming election, whether or not the GOP shirks its duty as a viable political party.

BBC – Future – The man who studies the spread of ignorance

Agnotology – the study of willful acts to spread confusion and deceit, usually to sell a product or win favor.

Like a lot of other people on this planet, my TV is the Internet. I stopped watching American TV over five years ago for two major reasons:

1. I got tired of hearing the same crappy commercials every five or 10 minutes and
2. I got tired of hearing the same bogus crap coming out of the mouths of news readers who just parrot the six-grade level idioticy they are paid to utter.

In this article the claim is made that the Internet propagates ignorance. It can, if you don’t have some ability to spot bullshit artists when you encounter them. Excessive editorializing, playing to your emotions, making claims that everyone else is wrong and you are right, making derogatory remarks to bolster the claim, etc. There is also the “smell test”, an intuitive feeling that something isn’t right here.

The only American news I bother myself with is NPR, that comes on with the clock radio (and even that I turn off with disgust at times). BBC, France 24, Reuters, Al-jazeera, UN News, Hong Kong Free Press, Times of India, etc. I access on the Internet. English is now a major world language and translations of news into this language are usually available.

Having said all this, if you are still with me, doesn’t mean a thing to people who have no moral compass and just want to get votes. Playing to the ignorance, fear, and anger of the masses will get votes. The National Socialists in Germany knew that, and so does Donald Trump.

BBC News: Barack Obama: US gun control inaction must end

If Mr. Obama sheds tears over the sad state of affairs in the US regarding firearms, don’t give him a bad time about it! It broke my heart to see those father’s in Roseburg who needed to cry, but couldn’t, because their kids were gone. He is not a weak person for being emotional because the gun BS in this country is out of control. It is a lame duck privilege the president is exercising here. And the ATF is not going to come around and confiscate all the guns in America. Voters should determine the direction of this nation, not some entrenched gun lobby.

I saw this on the BBC News App and thought you should see it:

BBC News: Donald Trump mocks ‘disgusting’ Clinton toilet break

Last year I mentioned to my Swedish cousin that in the 2016 US Presidential Election there would be a lot of asses parading about on TV over here. This clown takes the cake. He has destroyed the Republican Party.

I saw this on the BBC News App and thought you should see it:

Donald Trump mocks ‘disgusting’ Clinton toilet break_87340898_hi029935742.jpgRepublican frontrunner Donald Trump says it was “disgusting” that Hillary Clinton apparently took a toilet break during a televised Democratic debate.
