MedPage Today: Zombie epidemic presents stiff challenge

This must be for real(?).

Last night I watched a YouTube video about zombies that took over an airplane. It did not have a “happy” ending. Why did I watch this sort of crap? I have the flu and I didn’t feel like exercising my brain. For this to pop up on MedPage Today cannot help but give the subject matter credence.

Will Global Warming mean a rise in zombies in traditionally colder climates?

BBC – Future – The tragic fate of the people who stop sleeping

This article intrigues me because it focuses on genetic history and the unfolding study of problems passed on inter-familial down through the generations. In the ongoing debate between nature (biology) and nurture (environment) there are those dormant things within us that may or may not get passed down to our progeny. And all the positive thinking and self-help programs in the world won’t change the future activation of these problems.

Cannabis oil treatment for terminally ill child – New Zealand

Doctors in New Zealand refuse to prescribe cannabis oil to a terminally ill child with brain cancer. While there are cases in the US and Canada where cannabis oil treatment reportedly worked, the NZ doctors see this as “antidotal” and not the result of proper scientific study.

The child’s grandparents have called in an attorney for possible legal resolution of this matter.

BBC News: The advantages of a bilingual brain

In my life journey I have picked up five languages. Français est ma deuxième langue, bien sûr! Español está mi tercero lengua. Die vierte Sprache ist Deutsch. Svenska är mitt familjens språk, även om jag bor i Oregon.

To communicate this way I need an Internet device with multiple keyboards. And many times I shift keyboards during a message. After all, min faster i Sverige heter Märta, not Marta!

I saw this on the BBC News App and thought you should see it:

The advantages of a bilingual brain_87363929_87363928.jpgThere’s an increasing amount of scientific research that suggests the extra work bilingual brains do when translating has additional benefits – especially in old age.

BBC News: Penis transplant plans for wounded US veterans

After the success of this organ transplant surgery in South Africa, the Veterans Administration is planning to help its wounded veterans in this area. Following the recipients of this surgery for five years afterwards has been determined to be sufficient time to see how the body takes to this new appendage.

Phalloplasty differs from penis transplantation in that a pseudopenis is created using the tissue of the surgical patient. For transgender men with money this is the state of the art. A common complication of Phalloplasty is restricted blood flow and the setting-in of gangrene.

It is unfortunate in Western and especially American society that there is so much silence and shame when it comes to surgeries of this sort. Much of it, I believe, has to do with sex being looked upon as “sinful” or “dirty”, as well as sex being the subject of countless jokes in poor taste that bring a quick laugh usually at the expense of others.

I saw this on the BBC News App and thought you should see it:
