Chittister: Confront challenges, seize opportunities, build a new world | National Catholic Reporter

Sister Joan Chittister has always been a holy, bold, and persistent force for change in my life. St. Placid Priory in Lacey, Washington, where I made my Oblation as a Benedictine Oblate, has this presentation by Sister Joan on its Facebook page. We both see the love of God as not being limited by any limitations, categorizations, or other boundaries imposed by humanity on one another. The creation of a world of love and peace IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY.

BBC News: Redmayne plays transgender pioneer in The Danish Girl

THE DANISH GIRL sounds like a film the worldwide transgender community can be proud of. We don’t do this to “cute” or “sinful”. We have to, like the rest of humanity, live in the genders God gave us. After all, when God made male and female, He created the continuum of all living beings between those two absolute poles.

I saw this on the BBC News App and thought you should see it:

Random Tankar

Random Tankar (random thoughts) 27 November 2015

“Dearth” is a common word in research when it comes to finding out about something. For the “T” (transgender and gender nonconforming) in LGBT there is a lot of dearth when it comes to scientific studies. Even though we are besieged daily with news, TV shows, etc., the research material is very sparse in this area and dates back just a few years.

Intersex or Disorders (Variations) of Sexual Development (DSD) medical studies, on the other hand, can be found dating back to the times of Ancient Greece. Since some intersex persons are also transgender, then transgenderism must also have been common back in those days.

Adding the “I” (Intersex) to the LGBT acronym is becoming common in places like the European Community and Austrailia. At present this is not the case in North America. So when the human rights of marginalized groups are advocated for our Intersex sisters and brothers may or may not be left out, depending on where they live.

There are a few psychological studies about intersexuality and mountains of studies about the intersex phenomenon in the medical literature. Thinking about this invisibility of intersexuality, especially in psychological circles, bothers me. And it calls to me as something whose time has come to be addressed.

My future website has been on hold for various reasons. Perhaps I have raison d’être to go forward now. Persons I would target for the website would include those people with DSDs and their allies. Psychology students needing background in trans* and inter* issues would be another targeted group. The general public must not be left out since these issues have social and political importance. Intersex psychology would also make for an interesting doctoral dissertation.

LOTS TO THINK ABOUT!

BBC News: Charity: ‘More compassion needed for refugees’

Stories like this can tear at the heart, especially during the holidays. Last year, after learning that I had family in Sweden and visiting them, the deep desire of wanting to leave Oregon and move to Sweden to be with them geographically really tore at my heart. Swedish society is kinder and gentler to LGBT folks than here in the States; and I have no living, accepting family on this side of the Pond.

With a US passport I can stay over there each year for up to 90 days. and we send emails and Skype now and then. Despite the distance between us, WE ARE A FAMILY. After I get Transatlantictransadvocates going on a profitable basis, I will have the funds to visit them on a regular basis and perhaps do doctoral studies at a Swedish university. Also by that time I will be much more adept and educated in Trans* and Inter* studies and even do speaking engagements in Europe.

For migrants like in this story I have some advice:
1. Thank Allah that you are free from the torturers and accept residency wherever you are assigned.
2. Realize your family in the UK is next door in cyberspace.
3. Comply with all EU requirements and become a productive, valuable asset to the country to which you are assigned. Your family back home can join you there.
4. When you have the time and money, visit your family in the UK and have them visit you.
5. WHEN THE TIME COMES and if it is a good idea then, relocate within the EU where you and all your family can be together. Remember: Allah is compassionate and merciful.

Emotions are running so high now. The formation of the European Community after the devastation of the 20th Century proves that humanity CAN live in peace. Dear Lord, help these people stay as one.

I saw this on the BBC News App and thought you should see it:

Eagles of Death Metal Discuss Paris Terror Attacks

Watching this brought memories of past traumas, both in and out of the military, to my mind. When your life is in danger and you make those split second decisions that you hope and pray are the ones that will save you… Like your mind goes to a place where you just move without thinking about it. Survivor’s guilt is also a part of it. It’s like a “damned if you do and damned if you don’t”.

In the military you EXPECT to encounter shit like this. But in civilian life this just doesn’t compute. I saw a unsmiling man in a store today. He was wearing a long coat. I imagined he had a sawed-off shotgun under the coat and was going to start shooting.

The long arm of trauma, real, vicarious, or imagined. It doesn’t ever go away completely. #PrieresPourParis

Student Success Stories | LGBT Health Graduate Certificate Program | The George Washington University

This program is definitely on my wish list. Perhaps I can put the cost of getting this Certificate into my DVR plan. I have yet to nail down my business plan because there was a delay in getting me a counselor.

BBC News: Migrants ‘stuck’ on Greece border with Macedonia

This is not theatrical. This is reality. Yet I find it hard to believe. I know of some American politicians who need to have their lips sewed shut. But these people see death as a better alternative than returning to where they came from. Are ALL of them liars? International law specifically grants refugee status to torture victims, persons persecuted for their sexual orientations and gender identities, and for other specific reasons. But this is beyond laws and regulations. “Freedom IS another word for nothing left to lose”, it seems. God help us all.

I saw this on the BBC News App and thought you should see it:

Migrants ‘stuck’ on Greece border with Macedonia_86833606_86833605.jpgThousands of people are stuck on Greece’s border with Macedonia because they are being told that only those that can prove they are escaping war Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan can pass.
